Sealing Machines for Streamlined Packaging Processes

Sealing machines seal trays or film packaging in a controlled manner using heat, making them ideal for professional packaging processes in restaurants, catering, take-out, and institutional food service. What matters most is not just the machine’s performance, but whether the machine, packaging format, and accessories are suited to daily operations.

Select sealing equipment that is suitable for the packaging process

In small snack bars or take-out establishments, a compact tabletop unit that can be set up directly at an existing packaging station is often sufficient. In busier kitchens, however, repeatability, quick operations, and a design that functions reliably even during service are essential. Our product line includes various designs for this purpose: machines for sealing trays with a sealing surface of up to 270 x 250 mm, as well as models with sealing bars 385 or 400 mm long.

Five criteria are particularly helpful when making a selection:

  • Type and size of the trays or films used
  • Size of the sealing surface or sealing bar
  • Appropriate roll width and accessory compatibility
  • Electrical power and available connection type
  • Available workspace at the packaging station

These factors are more practical than a comparison based solely on wattage. Depending on the model, the power output in the product range varies from 120 or 170 W for devices with sealing bars to 750 W or 1 kW for tray sealers.

Consider Workflow and Space Requirements from the Very Beginning

A sealing machine works most efficiently in settings where filled trays arrive without detours and are then immediately passed on or stored. A sturdy work surface from the stainless steel furniture line provides a base that’s easy to clean. Items that require refrigeration can be retrieved from nearby refrigerated counters without interrupting the packaging process due to long distances.

Especially during peak hours, it becomes clear whether the workstation is logically laid out. If the equipment, film roll, empty trays, and prepared portions are arranged in a logical order, the number of unnecessary steps is reduced. During preparation, it’s important to have enough free space so that portioning and sealing don’t block the same workstation at the same time.

Hygiene, Materials, and Compatible Accessories

Several GGM models are designed as tabletop units with stainless steel housings. Stainless steel promotes a robust, low-maintenance work environment, but it does not replace regular cleaning of the heating surface, sealing bar, and adjacent contact areas. Residue in the sealing zone can disrupt the workflow and should therefore be addressed as part of the daily cleaning routine.

Compatibility is also important. For machines with a 245-mm roll width, the film must fit accordingly. The product line includes, for example, aluminum sealing film that is 245 mm wide and comes in rolls 250 m long. Sealing frames for 250-g, 500-g, and 750-g trays are also available for tray sealing machines. This compatibility is more important than simply considering the machine’s external dimensions.

On models with an adjustable thermostat, the heating output can be adapted to the specific packaging process. Before installation, it is therefore worth briefly checking the power connection, footprint, and material combination; this ensures that you do not discover during operation that the film, frame, or machine are technically incompatible.

Quick Checklist Before Buying a Sealing Machine

  • Determine the packaging format and desired seal size
  • Match the sealing area or sealing bar to actual needs
  • Check the roll width and compatible sealing frame
  • Plan for the footprint and connection type at the workstation
  • Consider access for cleaning and the frequency of daily use

Cost-effectiveness results from a well-coordinated process

The right sealing machine can streamline packaging processes by consolidating repetitive steps at a fixed station. This simplifies training, reduces the need to search for items and walk distances, and helps ensure consistent output. This process stability is particularly economically significant as the share of takeout or catering increases: The largest machine isn’t necessarily the best choice—rather, it’s the model that fits the actual volume and available space.

Cleaning and return processes are also part of the concept. If the packaging station is located near functional dishwashing units, used containers and equipment can be clearly separated from the clean packaging area. This keeps the station organized without unnecessarily complicating the workflow.

Sealing machines as part of a professional packaging station

When making a selection, the key factors are the interaction between the machine, the film, the tray size, and the workspace. Compact tabletop machines are suitable for limited spaces, while larger sealing areas or longer sealing bars provide more flexibility for a variety of packaging tasks.

By aligning your needs with actual portion sizes, packaging formats, and peak times, you create a solid foundation for clean and predictable processes. GGM Gastro offers a variety of sealing machines, as well as matching films and sealing frames, to meet the diverse demands of everyday commercial use.
